How can I get dental and vision coverage with Medicare?
While Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) doesn’t include routine dental or vision care, you’ll find that Medicare Advantage plans (Part C) often fill this gap. These plans not only cover dental and vision needs but also provide additional benefits that go beyond what Original Medicare provides, including prescription drug coverage. What will I pay for prescription drugs if I enter the Part D donut hole?
The Medicare Part D donut hole, also known as the coverage gap, is a stage in Part D coverage that comes after your initial coverage period. You enter this phase when your total drug costs, including what both you and your plan have paid for your medications, reach a specific threshold. This threshold amount may vary from year to year.
How do I know if I’ll be able to see my same doctor when I’m on Medicare?
Numerous doctors are Medicare providers, but it’s always a good idea to confirm with your doctor directly. If you’re thinking about enrolling in a Medicare Advantage plan (Part C) that operates with a specific provider network, it’s essential to check whether your doctor is a part of that network. Be sure to review the provider list for each plan you are exploring.
Who is eligible for Medicare program?
Medicare is accessible to individuals aged 65 and older, as well as those with specific disabilities or conditions like end-stage renal disease. If you are 65 or older and currently receiving benefits, you typically do not need to pay Medicare premiums.
What happens to my spouse’s health coverage when I retire and go on Medicare?
If your spouse is younger than you and there is a gap between the coverage under your employer’s plan and their eligibility for Medicare, they may need to explore alternative coverage options. Your employer might provide COBRA for your spouse to maintain their coverage; it’s advisable to discuss this with your employer’s plan administrator.
Alternatively, your spouse can purchase individual coverage through the Marketplace or directly from an insurance company until they become eligible for Medicare. When that time comes, your spouse may qualify for premium-free Part A based on either your work record or their own.
What happens if I move? Can I keep the same Medicare Advantage plan?
Medicare Advantage plans have specific geographic service areas where they provide coverage. If you relocate to a new address within the same service area, you can typically keep your current plan. To confirm whether your new residence falls within your plan’s service area, contact the customer service number provided by your plan.
However, if you move outside of your plan’s service area, you will need to make alternative arrangements. This may involve selecting a different Medicare Advantage plan that covers your new location or returning to Original Medicare while considering the addition of a standalone prescription drug plan and Medicare supplement insurance.
When can I join, switch, or drop a Medicare Advantage Plan?
Each year, there is an open enrollment period for Medicare Advantage Plans, running from October 15 to December 7. Any changes you want to make, such as joining a new plan, switching to a different plan, or discontinuing your current plan, must be done during this time. The coverage for any changes made during this period will typically start on January 1st of the following year.
